Clun Forest Spirits
Mike Longmore started on the Clun Forest Spirits in mid-2017 following a visit to Solway Spirits where owner Andrew showed him his new still in operation. By the end of the year Mike had designed and built his first still and successfully acquired the licencing to operate and produce gin. His first two batches were ready for Clun’s Green man festival and called Green Man and Ice Queen, celebrating the two principal characters in the event.
He went on to refine both gins which are now his two ‘standards’, Yard Arm and Three Knocks. A musician for most of his working life Mike was unsure of how to sell and market his gins so began trading at Ludlow market, followed by their food festivals, Bishops Castle Michaelmas and Much Wenlock Christmas Fairs. By then he had acquired his licence to sell into retail so now supplies pubs and restaurants as well.
2019 saw attendance at Montgomery food and Street and Christmas fayres, celebrating with a limited-edition Montgomery Gin, increasing output, selling further afield and attending more fairs.
In 2020 a rapid change of tack had to be taken so the website has been redesigned to accept online sales. A limited edition named Lockdown was also created, a classic dry Gin for sipping or mixing with mellow tones of Cassia, Coriander Cardamom Pink and Szechuan peppercorns finishing with the zest of Lemon Orange and a hint of Lime.
A delivery service in and around Ludlow is available and may possibly extend to other areas.
