Montgomery Real Bread

In 2010 by Keith Thompson, one of Taste Montgomery’s founder members, Montgomery Real Bread is a micro bakery producing a range of artisan breads. This was a complete change for Keith who had worked for over twenty years managing projects dealing with homelessness and housing related issues! Previously baking bread was a hobby, but inspired by attendance at a bread making course run by Andrew Whiteley of Bread Matters, plus the work of the Campaign for Real Bread, a radical decision was made. Start a bakery, a local bakery.

The name originated from the fact that all the breads are made using four basic ingredients; flour, salt, water and a natural leaven or yeast, with no additives, improvers or preservatives. ‘Real’ bread, unique in taste and texture. The flour used is organic and mostly stoneground and local millers Bacheldre and Shipton Mill in Gloucestershire are the main suppliers of the flour used.

The aim was always to supply bread within a small geographical area and that remains the case. The bakery is based in premises at The Dragon Hotel in Montgomery and the bread is used by The Dragon, The Cottage and Shed38 as well as being sold at Castle Kitchen on Broad Street three days a week. Orders are also taken for private functions in and around the area.
